York Membery is a London-based journalist and historical writer, contributing regularly to the Daily Express, BBC History Magazine, History Today and Sunday Times among other publications; he is also a contributing editor to the Journal of Liberal History.

He specialises in news and features, many with a historical theme -- but also writes on travel, business and entertainment and other topics. He  worked as a journalist on the Sunday Times, Daily Express and Daily Mirror before going freelance. In 2004 he won the ‘Discover Canada’ award at the Canada Media Travel Awards; and in 2007 he won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion of Canada’ award. He is a member of the Canadian Tourism Commission’s ‘In-Market Committee’ in the UK.

York, who studied history at Cardiff University and the Institute of Historical Research, University of London (where he took an MA in Contemporary British History), has worked as a consultant on documentaries for America’s A&E network and for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp investigative show, Fifth Estate. He also worked as a researcher on The Firm, a documentary series about the Royal Family.
